Abbotts Ann’s Unsung Hero is honoured for her charity work

Margaret Wilson Margaret Wilson, resident of Manor Close Abbotts Ann, was honoured for her fund raising charity work in support of Cancer Research UK and of the Countess of Brecknock Hospice at a reception for Hampshire’s Volunteers held at Milestones Museum, Basingstoke on Thursday 18th November 2004. Margaret was among some 50 “Unsung Heroes” from Hampshire who were invited to the reception by the Leader of Hampshire County Council, Councillor Ken Thornber CBE.

In 1970, Margaret began raising money for Cancer Research UK. When the Countess of Brecknock Hospice opened in 1990 Margaret shared her efforts equally between the two charities. Over the last 35 years Margaret has raised approximately £9000 for these charities through “open house” days and coffee mornings where she sold craftware, home-made cakes and confectionary. .On retirement from her profession as a Nursing Sister at the Andover War Memorial Hospital, Margaret concentrated on her charity work but she still maintains an active association with the Hospital as regular visitor to the wards.
