WI Newsletter – December 2008

Newly elected President, Val Downing, stepped up to welcome us to our new look December meeting. Several of us were brave enough to attempt some “in house” entertainment, starting with a condensed humorous version of Cinderella, followed by a sketch with three brides recollecting their very different wedding days. Next was an unaccompanied, and unfamiliar, rendition of the 12 days of Christmas, which on this occasion involved the fruitless hunt for a Christmas tree. Thanks must go to Upper Clatford W.I. who had kindly shared the Cinderella sketch with us, and whose talented members had written the revised version of the 12 days of Christmas.

It was now time for everyone to relax and enjoy the excellent hot buffet provided by our favourite caterers from Totton who are by now very familiar with our kitchen. There was plenty of choice and enough for seconds as well!

The evening closed with carol singing accompanied by guest pianist Marlene Russell.

For the first time, and with considerable regret, the walking group had to abandon their plans to walk this month, when the morning of Saturday 13 December became a wash out – but undaunted they still managed to make it to the Eagle in the village for lunch, where they made plans for 2009.
