WI Newsletter – May 2007

At our May meeting, members were once again reminded why their diaries are so full at the moment (all to be revealed in our June newsletter) and given up-to-date information on all that is happening. We then had a resolution to discuss, which referred to the closure of Community Hospitals. Naturally we all wish to keep our local hospitals open and our delegate, Val Downing, will be voting on our behalf at the NFWI AGM on 06 June at the Royal Albert Hall in London – six of us are also going as observers.

Next on the Agenda was a surprise speaker. Before she leaves to return to live in the USA Muriel Spanholtz agreed to give us a little resume of her early career, which took her to Japan in the mid-1950’s. Among the many fascinating insights into living in Tokyo at that time was the fact that apparently there were very few road signs, so any invitation to someone’s home was accompanied by a map and detailed instructions of how to find it.

Diary Dates:

04 June – Quiz team in action

14 June – 7 p.m. Village Hall – 90th Anniversary Celebration

Our June meeting has a wedding theme and several members have volunteered to speak and share with us memories of either their own nuptials or some they have attended. Before then, however, we will be holding our 90th Anniversary celebration in the village hall on the 14th June, to which we have invited representatives of various village organisations and the Chairman of Hampshire Federation.
