WI Newsletter – May 2008

Questions are being asked! Why was there a fire engine outside the Village Hall on the last Thursday in May?

Seriously, two representatives of this emergency service were present to promote fire safety in the home. Arrangements will now be made for home visits to ascertain whether smoke alarms are correctly positioned and in working order. If necessary new ones will be fitted free of charge. Other issues can be discussed at the same time, such as escape routes in the event of a fire.

Next on the agenda were the two resolutions to be debated at the NFWI’s AGM in Liverpool on the 05 June, which involved discussing the banning of bottom trawling and inappropriate imprisonment of the mentally ill.

The walking group were given a warm welcome by villagers doing a spring tidy-up of the churchyard in Broughton on the 10th May, with an unexpected personal guided tour of the dovecot and bell tower. This was the icing on the cake, having already enjoyed being in the English countryside as they continued along the Clarendon Way from Kings Somborne.
