IT Awareness Workshop on Sunday 2nd February 2025

The first in a series of IT Awareness Training Workshops will be held on Sunday 2nd February 2025 in the Village Hall starting at 2pm and lasting 2.5 hours.

It is open to anyone over 16, or under 16 if accompanied by a parent or guardian who wants to increase their knowledge on using their computer or other Internet connected device, and/or telecoms/broadband.

Almost anything that comes under the banner of IT (Information Technology) can be included. IT is a broad professional term that includes tasks such as: Protecting data and information, and troubleshooting computer issues plus much more. 

In a recent on-line survey 26 people responded wanting the following issues covered:-

  • How to use Excel and their formulas
  • Protecting against hackers
  • Setting up router security and protecting personal data
  • Which browser, email client and internet service provider is best
  • Use of Cloud storage and should I use it?
  • Virus protection and backup methods
  • Sorting out slow broadband and WiFi connections
  • Reducing junk emails and rejected emails to some free email accounts
  • Password protection and password managers
  • VPN’s do they help with security?
  • How to setup a home network to hold data centrally that the family can access?
  • Is it safe to clear application caches
  • Using a mobile phone for payments
