W.I. Newsletter April 2017

A big thank you to all of you who supported us at our recent Easter Eggstravaganza – it was a great success.  We were delighted to see so many of you and hope you all enjoyed yourselves.   The proceeds of the morning are helping us fund our Centenary Celebrations later this year.

Some of our members did dress up – albeit not as THOSE bunny girls, but there was an abundance of tails and ears!

The various social groups have been busy this month with a very successful Breakfast Club at Rosebourne Garden Centre.  The Supper Club enjoyed themselves at The Lion in Clanville – not sure that the young waiter quite knew what to make of us though.  The Walking Group made their way around Longparish and the Lunch Club have just enjoyed a delightful lunch at The Oak in Smannell.   Most of us took advantage of a two-course deal which represented great value.  The portions were still generous as well.

I am sure a lot of our members are avid fans of The Antiques Roadshow, but it would appear that not many of us have learnt a lot if this month’s meeting is anything to go by.  Mr. Bill Evans brought along 14 objects, acquired during his many years at Globe Galleries in Andover, and he wanted us to identify what they were used for, guess when they were made and give an idea of their value.  Quite frankly most of us were rubbish.  Mind you how many of you would be able to identify a punch toddy lifter?  Did you even know it existed?  Necessity is the mother of invention, but I cannot remember the last time I needed a spoon to extract bone marrow.

It was a fun evening and we did laugh.

Next month is our Annual Meeting and we will also be discussing the two Resolutions that will be voted on at the NFWI’s AGM in June.  Visitors are still welcome to join us – 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall.
