WI Newsletter August 2014

ABBOTTS ANN WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2014

WOW!! What can we say, but a very big thank you to everyone who supported Abbotts Ann W.I. Refreshments at the village fete on the last weekend of August.   Our members had been baking and preparing for this event for some weeks, but customers are needed to consume these delicious (even if we do say so ourselves!) offerings. We certainly had those in abundance, we didn’t stop all afternoon, so thank you to everyone who came and indulged. We had a brilliant result financially, but I am sure there will be more news on that front from the Fete Committee – it is being counted still as I write.

We had a more leisurely start to the month, first the reading group got together to discuss their latest tome and the following day our members gathered outside the Eagle for our trip to Hampton Court Palace. We were well supported by friends and family and had a wonderful time, there is so much to see and do and the history is almost tangible.

The walking group started and finished at The Oak in Smannell, with glimpses across the town from time to time as we walked through woods, farmland and country roads.

Members never miss the chance to get together for a chat and the coffee morning was well supported, likewise the Supper Club. We met at the White Lion at Wherwell, but the evening started with a slight panic when our group of 12 arrived to find we weren’t expected. This was soon sorted, the booking had been put down for the wrong evening, tables were quickly re-arranged and drinks served. The meals came out hot and all together which is always preferable.

We will be learning more about Herbalism at our meeting on 25th September, remember 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall if you would like to join us.
