FREE Prostate Cancer Tests at War Memorial Hall

One of the things I value most about village life is the way we look out for one another. When I learned that prostate cancer is now the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the UK, I felt it was important to bring the potentially lifesaving service of a mobile prostate screening service to our local community.

On Saturday 26th September, between 11am and 3pm, The Prostate Project will be visiting Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall to offer free PSA blood testing for eligible men. The test is available to men aged 50 to 70, Black men aged 45 and over, and men aged 45 to 70 with a family history of prostate, breast or ovarian cancer.

There is often a misconception that prostate testing involves an intimate examination, but this event simply involves a blood test taken by registered phlebotomists. This test could help detect prostate cancer at an early stage when treatment is most effective.

For the day, the hall will also become a Prostate Information Hub where visitors can learn more about prostate cancer, ask questions and find out about the support and services available through The Prostate Project. Testing is provided free of charge, although donations are always welcome to help fund the charity’s work – £5 – £10 would be amazing though!

Appointments can be booked online using the QR code provided on our publicity materials or via the website at The Prostate Project https://prostate-project.org.uk/. This event is open to residents of Abbotts Ann, Upper and Lower Clatford, Amport, Monxton, Grately and Quarley.

If you are eligible, or know someone who is, please consider booking a test. A few minutes of your time could make a tremendous difference to your future health and provide valuable peace of mind for you and your family.”

* Anyone with an abnormal PSA result will be contacted by a Clinical Nurse Specialist who will discuss the next steps with you as well as issuing a referral letter to give to your GP.
