Abbotts Ann W.I. was formed in 1917 so yes that means we are now officially a hundred. We meet on the last Thursday of the month in Abbotts Ann War Memorial Hall at 7.30 p.m. New members are always welcome and we enjoy having visitors but there is no obligation to join.
In addition to our meetings where we have a variety of speakers there is a Walking Group, Reading Group, Breakfast Club, Lunch Club & Supper Club and occasional coffee mornings. Our programme aims to reach all ages and interests.
During the year various excursions are arranged such as visits to the theatre, cinema, gardens and stately homes. In recent years we have enjoyed Craft Days where we get to practice new skills with varying degrees of success.
We have just held a very successful tea party to celebrate achieving our centenary, together with an exhibition reflecting on the history not only of our own Institute, but also the W.I. as a National organisation and our village. It made for a fascinating insight into the changes of the last 100 years.
Abbotts Ann W.I joins in village events whenever possible. For many years we have provided refreshments for the annual fete (tea and cakes) and members offer support to the community in numerous ways including volunteering in the village shop, serving on various committees and assisting at other events.
We also support local charities when we can, utilising the proceeds from coffee mornings and an annual collection in lieu of sending each other Christmas cards.
Abbotts Ann W.I. is part of The Hampshire Federation and The Anton Danebury Group which involves us in various competitions and events, including in recent years darts, scrabble, skittles and quizzes. Some members attend their Spring and Autumn meetings.
