John Heather was the winner of the Hibbert Cup in 2024. Many of you will have seen him around the village or will know him from his work as a Parish Councillor.
John has lived in the village for over 50 years. When he retired, he decided to do something to help the community, as he has a good knowledge of our village life and knows many of his fellow residents.
As a Parish Councillor, he has attended many council meetings and has a great interest in current issues and the future of the village.
He enjoys walking and spends a lot of time walking the various footpaths around our village, spotting issues that could be improved to make it more enjoyable for all.
As a Footpath Warden he looks after the fifteen footpaths around the village, keeping them in good order for public use, working with other volunteers. Working with the Hampshire County Council Countryside Service, he secured funding to purchase various tools – and the equipment training and first aid courses needed to use them safely.
John is also curator of the village information kiosk – the old phone box outside the War Memorial Hall. He ensures it is kept up to date with village information, clean and regularly maintained for the public to use.
John continues to walk the paths around the village, making sure that our village looks its best and is safe and pleasant for everyone to use.
John is a worthy recipient of the Hibbert Cup.
This year’s winner will be announced at the Fete on 6 September 2025, and a profile of the winner will be published in the parish magazine in early 2026.
