W.I. Newsletter February 2017

We may not have had a speaker organised for this month’s meeting, but to make up for it our members have been doing a lot of talking throughout this month.    We chatted as we walked through wintery showers of sleet in very cold temperatures around Hatherden and Wherwell.  We did laugh, as with our ages ranging from 61 – 81, we cheerfully ignored the media advice to stay indoors and keep warm.  Mind you we were delighted to return to the warmth of the Old Bell & Crown for hot food and drinks.

The Hawk at Amport was our Supper Club Venue and once again our large gathering had much to discuss as we ate our delicious meals.   Our reputation obviously goes before us, as we were given our own room at the back of the pub. What was a little disconcerting, however, was the incidents of other diners coming to stand in the doorway and peering in – were we the evening’s entertainment we wondered?   As we left, however, the bar staff revealed everyone wanted to know who the noisy group was!

The largest lunch group ever, met at The Plough in Grateley and once again we generated much chatter and noise.  We were pleased to see Christine Fell, who has moved away from Abbotts Ann, but who had come down to catch up with her friends from the village.

What we talked about at length at this month’s meeting were all the events planned to celebrate our Centenary (not personally you understand), but Abbotts Ann W.I.  The women of the village were very keen to embrace this new organisation in 1917 and remember it only came to these shores in 1915 – we pre-date the formation of Hampshire Federation.   We are having a fundraising event on 11th April entitled Easter Eggstravaganza.  This is a morning of refreshments and activities for all ages, so please come along and support us.   Other events include a party and exhibition in July and a lunch later in October.

Dream Interpretation will be the subject of Graham Birchmore’s talk next month – last time he interpreted our handwriting, which produced some interesting results.  I wonder what our subconscious will reveal about us!   Want to know our secrets ………… then come along to the Village Hall on 30th March at 7.30 p.m. to hear more.
