WI Newsletter – December 2010

Fortunately, all our activities in December take place in the first part of the month, thus affording us the opportunity to concentrate on our own personal arrangements for Christmas.

Temperatures were still freezing, but the snow had disappeared in time for our Christmas festivities in the Village Hall and it was with some trepidation that recently elected President Sue George faced her new responsibilities. With a last minute cancellation of the planned entertainment, due to illness, and a new caterer, this was understandable. Nevertheless, her anxieties were unfounded, nice food, fine wine and good company made for an enjoyable evening.

Before the snow made a return, our walking group was able to enjoy a slightly shorter walk than usual, around the village of Tangley, followed by lunch at The Cricketers Public House.

Researching one’s family tree is very popular at the moment and at our next meeting on 27th January 2011, Peter Redmond will be sharing his experiences, intriguingly entitled The Wrong Side of the Blanket and our competition is a family heirloom (N.B. this is not the Antiques Roadshow so there will be no valuation at the end of the evening!).
