W.I. Newsletter December 2018

At this time of year, it seems as if all WI events are condensed into the first two weeks of December – enabling us to then enjoy time with our families and non-WI friends.

On the 8th I believe the breakfast club met at their favourite venue – Rosebourne Garden Centre at Weyhill – and I know the walking group met in Sutton Scotney to enjoy a lovely ramble before lunching together in The Coach & Horses.

Our meeting was on the 13th December, but unfortunately, our planned quiz master withdrew at the last minute due to other commitments.  However, our resourceful President, Kate, came up trumps with her own version of a seasonal quiz.  It was a combination of WI knowledge, facts about Abbotts Ann, a smattering of challenging general knowledge questions as well as some with a Christmas theme. The winning table managed to accumulate 28½ points (out of 40) working well as a team.

There was a lovely buffet supper to follow – each member brings along a “plate” of delicious food to share and it always works out well.  There is a good combination of sweet and savoury, healthy and indulgent options.  With all that brain work we had worked up a good appetite.

Our next meeting is on 31st January 2019 (7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall) and we will be welcoming Dee Howarth and Abbotts Ann Handbells.

However, before that we have our Post-Christmas Lunch at Esseborne Manor to look forward to – it will be good to catch up with those we haven’t seen over the Christmas period.
