WI Newsletter – July 2009

With members forming themselves into teams of six, this month’s meeting was a quiz evening with three very different rounds. There was some hopefully friendly, competition amongst the various teams, as well as banter when the answers were given. Our President, Val Downing, who had obviously put a lot of hard work into this evening, was sorely tested in trying to find an outright winner, as two teams tied in at least two rounds!

The committee had also worked hard to produce a ploughman’s supper for everyone and several members had heeded the encouragement to bring along a guest.

Yes, we have been walking again this month, but no we did not get lost this time. Helen Stuart took us on a delightful stroll beginning in Upper Clatford, round Buryhill and then via the lakes around Rooksbury Mill into Goodworth Clatford and back to where started. Yes, of course we finished with a pub lunch, this time sampling the wares of the Crook & Shears in Upper Clatford.

Just a few weeks later and we in the pub again, this time it was the turn of the Lunch Club – 13 members enjoyed a get together at The Weyhil Fair – this is an ideal opportunity to catch up and chat without the time constraints of the monthly meeting.

Val Downing & Wendy Casson represented us at Longstock & Leckford’s 90th Anniversary celebrations and after a very enjoyable afternoon, the two lucky ladies returned home laden with their success in the raffle. Wendy, sat in the back of Val’s car, was surrounded by an enormous flower arrangement and a basket of homegrown fruit and vegetables. Val was very pleased that she had opted not to drive her mini on this occasion!
