We could sit back and relax to some extent this month as the hard work of the village fete was behind us this year and we could get on with more social events.
The White Horse at Thruxton was buzzing when the Supper Club descended, but there was a mixed reaction to the food. Some enthused and were keen to return soon, others a little more hesitant, it just proves we are all individuals with our own personal preferences. It was the Lord Nelson public house at Winterslow where the walking group decided to eat, following their enjoyable ramble around the Wiltshire countryside.
Following our summer break we returned to the Village Hall for this month’s meeting to hear from Love Yarn. Standing in for her colleague Fiona Bennett, Beccy Thompson explained how their business at Picket Piece had recently expanded into dressmaking. A wide variety of yarn and objects were shown which demonstrated how yarn has changed drastically in the last few years, with knitting and felting becoming more fashionable pass times. Beccy displayed a variety of items and explained how to knit in the round including how to create Christmas wreaths, make felted bunting and baby mole hats. Beccy revealed that she knits by subscribing to an on-line pattern (by designer Stephen West) which arrives in weekly instalments and means she has no idea as to what the completed article will be until she has finished – very intriguing.
Jane Austen will be the subject of October’s meeting, more particularly her Hampshire connections – so if you are an admirer of this much loved author, then please make a note of 31st October, 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall.
